Subnasal Lip Lift
Over time, the space between the nose and upper lip can lengthen making the lip appear smaller. A Subnasal Lip Lift shortens that space and picks up the upper lip. This makes the upper lip appear fuller and may expose a small section of teeth creating a more youthful appearance.
An incision is made under the nostrils in the shape of a bull horn. A sliver of skin is removed and the lip is gently lifted and sutured upward. The incision is hidden along the crease of the nose. The actual procedure takes around 30 minutes and is performed with oral sedation along with local anesthesia.
Sutures are removed in 7 to 10 days after the procedure. There will be some swelling that can be expected to last from two to four weeks. Physical activity needs to be limited for a few weeks after the procedure to ensure the incision heals correctly. Other restrictions include not drinking through a straw, wearing make up and eating and drinking food that is not at room temperature.
Most patients will heal with minimal scarring. Follow up laser procedures can be performed to reduce scarring if needed. The final result of the surgery will be a plumper limp with a more curvaceous look. Older patients will have more volume added to the lip as a result of the surgery.
